What can be said about a Gibson Les Paul that hasn’t been said at least a baker’s dozen times already?

When you get right down to it there aren’t many secrets behind this iconic guitar anymore.  It made a big impact early on when guitar music really started to break loose and it’s stood the test of time since.

Marking the 25th anniversary of Gibson the 25/50 line was released in 1978, an ironic twenty-six years after the company began, and was a popular sale up through 1980. It was so popular, actually that Gibson had factory seconds ready for release regardless of the whole limited edition ordeal.  Considering the lofty price of about $1,200 back in the 70s that’s quite a testament.

Gibson rolled out the red carpet for this line of guitars too.  They put their all into it and marketed as such with a beautiful flamed maple top on a mahogany body, five-piece flamed maple neck with split block inlays set in an ebony fretboard, and a beefy 25/50 inlay right smack in the headstock for all to see, the guitar certainly had what it took to catch your eye.  But it didn’t stop there.

With a Nashville bridge armed with a TP-6 fine tuning tailpiece, Shaller style tuners, and series VII pickups this guitar meant business all around.

It is interesting to note this guitar was a much bigger hit for collectors than it was for players.
