Potentially the First of Many

So Guitar Center. You’ve heard of them, right? They’re the super huge chain of stores that sell musical instruments. Well now they’re stepping out into the wild world of expos for the first time. Herein lies an opportunity to bear witness to the Guitar Center Legends Collection – a showcase of three guitars from some of the most ground breaking moments in the history of rock. Two authentic Eric Clapton guitars including his famous Blackie Stratocaster and his Gibson ES-335. In addition the only guitar from Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Lenny Stratocaster will be publicly available.

Midway between Winter and Summer NAMM Guitar Center gives us an experience to hold us over with over sixty vendors are slated to show up and showcase all sorts of new gear. Scheduled vendors to show include Martin, Fender, Casio, Roland, DW, Bose, and Pioneer.

Planned Events

The staff of Guitar Center has been piecing together enough to keep everyone busy for the day with a schedule filled with workshops and clinics to give everyone a good 101 on a variety of topics. To make life easier here’s the workshop schedule:

11:00 AM – Artist Workshop with jazz drummer Chad Wackerman, alongside jazz-fusion artist Allan Holdsworth and the electric bassist and Yellowjackets founder Jimmy Haslip.
12:00 PM – Artist Workshop with the famed DJ Mix Master Mike.
1:00 PM – Artist Workshop with the beyond talented keyboardist Derek Sherinian.
2:00 PM – Artist Workshop with drumer Steve Perkins of Jane’s Addiction fame, featuring fretless bass guitarist Tony Franklin and Grammy-winning upright bass player Rob Wasserman.
3:00 PM – DJ Workshop with the celebrated DJ Qbert.
4:00 PM – Artist Workshop hosted by drummer Gil Sharone with musicians Chino Marion, Todd Wilkinson, and Chuck Doom

As mentioned there will be clinics that are free with admission. All instruments and gear will be provided. Clinics will include a Recording Made easy with AVID and using Pro Tools 9, group guitar lessons, group ukelele lessons. Also included will be The Sessions (with registration at which offers insight to the music industry via a panel discussion.

And what would an expo be without a giveaway of sorts? Every attendee can enter to win Guitar Center’s $4,500 Guitar Center Dream Shopping Spree. With that kind of extra cash you could get a handful of pedals or maybe a whole new guitar if you don’t care how long your shopping spree turns out.

When and Where

This event is a lot nearer than you’d think. On Saturday, April 6th, 2013 the doors will open at the Long Beach Convention Center at 10:00 AM through 5:00 PM for a day mired in music and gear. The address, for the sake of your GPS, is 300 E Ocean Blvd, Long Beach CA, 90802.

Tickets are available on presale right now for a mere $5 a pop. Should you make an impromptu appearance on the opening day it will cost $10 instead.
