A Humbling Reflection on Modern Technology

AMPLIFi FX100Before getting to the point I’m going to make an observation. I remember when computers were completely independent from each other. Hard drives were megabytes big and if you wanted to show something to someone you needed to print a copy out. Now the internet has become comfortably integrated into our lives. Not that I’m anxious to sound like I’m becoming old, but it’s been interesting to see how the internet’s connected computers and then for that same technology to extend to phones, televisions, and even guitars and effect pedals…

And that spells a tasteful segue back to the point.

AMPLIFi FX100Line 6 has introduced the AMPLIFi FX100. This multi-effect pedal that pretty much lives up to every aspect of modern technology. These days it’s more rare to find a Line 6 product that doesn’t have a USB port on it, and the AMPLIFi is no different, but that’s expected by now. What adds a snappy touch to things is the Bluetooth streaming audio that lets you play with your own music library. Speaking of watching technology advance, it’s nice to see Bluetooth adapt to something more interesting than a headset for people to wear 24/7, but I digress.

On top of that the AMPLIFi using their tone matching tech blend the tone better. AMPLIFi uses its masterful insight to dissect the track you’re playing with and offers one that will mesh seamlessly.

Then there’s the cloud. Clouds have been becoming bigger and bigger these days, and not just because of natural precipitation. Line 6 has a cloud of its own where you can store your own presets, share them, and use others’. The cloud is even designed to monitor how you rate tracks and builds an understanding of your tastes. With that info it can recommend and automatically load up certain presets for you. How thoughtful.

AMPLIFi Remote

AMPLIFi FX100AMPLIFi Remote is an iOS app that functions just like the name implies. Your iWhatever becomes a remote for the AMPLIFi allowing you to sift through presets, tweak your tone with the hundreds of modeled amps and effects Line 6 is already well known for, and load them up. Bing, bang, boom.
