As if the Winery Dogs release (July 23rd, 2013 – Featuring Portnoy, Sheehan and Kotzen) isn’t enough to look forward to, Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan,  Tony MacAlpine, and Derek Sherinian will be seen on  a DVD/Blu-ray of their concert, “Live In Tokyo”, which took place on November 14, 2012. The DVD / Blu-ray will be released by Eagle Rock Entertainment, and will be available on September 3, 2013.

This was an hour and a half concert, featuring music from all of the members musical careers thus-far. The release will also feature some behind the scenes footage of the event’s production.

The PSMS Trailer

A little PSMS Member History

Portnoy, Sheehan, MacAlpine, SherinianMike Portnoy originally formed this line-up to rock a NAMM stage at Winter NAMM 2012 – at the Guitar Center Drum Off, and there was an exceptional response to these guys playing together, so they decided to take the act on the road. They toured Europe and Asia, and the footage in this DVD is taken from one of those shows – the Zepp, Tokyo one, to be exact.

Portnoy and Sherinian have obviously worked together before – Sherinian was the keyboardist for Dream Theater from 1994 till 1999, and was also the founder of another supergroup – Black Country Communion. He has also featured a slew of names we recognize on his solo albums, such as Yngwie Malmsteen, Slash, Steve Lukather, Joe Bonamassa, Zakk Wylde, and Billy Sheehan.

His Album Oceana was #4 on our Top 10 Best Guitar Albums Of 2011. Tony MacAlpine was also a guest guitarist on Oceana.

Portnoy and Sheehan are also busy with The Winery Dogs, and have an album scheduled to come out July 23rd, 2011. Featuring Richie Kotzen on guitar, The Winery Dogs are focusing more on a classic rock sound, which is a welcome direction to see these guys traveling in. A good change of pace.

MacAlpine and Sherinian also played together in the band Planet X.
