Steve Vai – Star Spangled Banner

I can’t believe it was twenty-one years ago when I sat there as a kid and watched Steve Vai play this version of the Star Spangled banner for MTV’s “Rock and Jock” Baseball game.

Does anyone else remember when MTV still remembered what the “M” was for? Not only music – but musicianship was respected by the network.

Anyway, I was floored by this performance, and I went out an bought Passion and Warfare a few months later.

Here’s a great video of that very performance to celebrate the 4th of July with – and if you watch close you’ll see lots of familiar faces in there all dressed up and ready to play baseball.

How American.
